This April we had four youth attend the Global Gateway Experience at Heifer International Ranch in Perryville, Arkansas. These youth along with 40 other 4-H members from around Indiana learned about hunger and poverty around the world. Each team came back to their county with a plan of action to benefit their community.
Our team of four - Rachel Dunlevy, Ryan Grundman, Grace Hooten, and Reagan Hubbard – have worked extremely hard to come up with a wonderful idea to join Hendricks County 4-H together in the fight against hunger. Attached to this email you will find a flyer about the End Hunger Games. This food drive competition will join Hendricks County 4-H members together to raise food items for local food pantries to compete against Boone County 4-H. The winning county will receive a traveling trophy and bragging rights for a year. More importantly, BOTH Counties will be fighting hunger locally!
During the competition, the Extension Office will have “drop off days” for Club Leaders or 4-H members to bring in items to donate. These items will be counted and distributed to local food pantries thanks to a partnership with the Hendricks County Food Pantry Coalition. It will be up to you as a club leader if you would like your members to bring items to our office or if it would be easier for you to collect items at a club meeting and bring them in all together. The competition will start June 1st and end July 31st. We hope that your club chooses to participate in this county-wide community service project, but understand if you choose to have 4-H members just participate at the individual level. Talk to your club leaders to see what they have planned!
Also, be sure to check out the Heifer International presentation during the Hendricks County 4-H Fair! Our team of four will be presenting on their trip, experience, and how you can help fight hunger on a global level! For more about Heifer International, visit their website: www.heifer.org.
We hope that Hendricks County 4-H members will participate and make a difference. If you have any questions about the Food Drive, please contact the Extension Office – 317-745-9260. We look forward to fighting hunger in Hendricks County with you! Thank you for your time.
